Rough trailer cut from the rushes a week after the conclusion of principal photography.

Starring Greta Wilson and Cherilynn Brooks, Love in the year 2000 is a futuristic love story about Lucky, a relationship representative who falls in love with a client. Produced by co-writer and director David Miller and director of photography Derick Avitt, Love in the year 2000 was shot on 355 with support from Panavision's New Filmmaker Grant and will premiere in festivals 2012.

Love in the Year 2000 is a science fiction story, set in an alternate history America of the year 2000. It tells the story of Lucky, a “relationship representative,” who saves prospective couples the time and drudgery of courtship by professionally standing in for one of the parties in a first-date situation, and evaluating the level of likely interest in the other party on behalf of her client. Of course, in the year 2000, the use of relationship representatives has become so widespread, it is a near-certainty both parties are representatives standing in for their respective clients, going through the motions, making mental notes to prepare reports the next morning. And so it is, shortly after the film opens, that Lucky finds herself in an unusual predicament (and a role for which she never rehearsed), when she is assigned to meet with Lena Nigari, a young woman doing something unheard of — going on a date herself.

Love in the Year 2000 was shot in May, 2011 and we need your help more than ever. We have raised more than $15,000 in grants and individual donations in support of this project, including a 4Culture grant to support project pre-production. The project was a finalist for the 2009 Independent Feature Project/Seattle Spotlight Award. And that $75,000 equipment grant from Panavision. We need to raise $14,000 more to pay for our production insurance and post-production expenses.

"Love in the year 2000" is a finalist for the 2009 IFP/Seattle Spotlight Award. This prestigious grant provides approximately $20,000 worth of in-kind goods and services to produce a short film. There are four other finalists, the winner will be announced in a public ceremony on Wednesday, November 11.

Turns out I was over-optimistic about a couple things, both my ability to handle two films consequentially, and how exhausted I would be after the first one wrapped. It's now been three months, and hey, things are picking up.

There's a teaser up on the Yonder site. There'll be more in the weeks and months to come as we whip things in shape for festivals and of course the inevitable threatrical run.

Now we lurch into pre-production on Love in the year 2000. We need to raise about $10,000 more, and then it's a go. We'll probably shoot one or two sections of the script in March. So, keep checking in for information on fundraisers and screenings and such.

This blog has been curiously dark, of late. I've been producing Matt Wilkins' new feature, Yonder, and we're entering our fourth week of production. The movie is half-way shot, but there's still half-way to go. I'll start fundraising and pre-producing L2K again in October.
